For many of my students, English is their second language. This can make English class which involves reading and writing difficult! I am constantly looking for engaging, yet understandable material or activities for my students, so that they enjoy the reading and writing they must do. This novel Monster, is about a teenage boy on trial, a scenario my students are familiar with, yet has a positive ending...something they may not be familiar with. I hope by reading and discussing these prevalent topics, my students will be engaged, and for once, enjoy reading. I want them to see that reading can allow you to escape any reality you are in, even if it is just for a moment.
