My students are beginning readers in a special education cross categorical model class grades K-3. The vast majority of my students are on free and reduced lunch. They have very little resources in the community. They attend public schools in a poverty stricken rural area in the South in a self contained class with students of similar disabilities. This is the only class in the school of this type. My class gender is all male with the exception of one girl. They love outdoors, computers, and playing board games. The class most popular activity is self selected reading. I often it the opportunity as an incentive to complete other class assignments. Most of my students can not read yet but love books and love being read to on a daily basis. They generally read the same book over and over to themselves but I have noticed that it may be due to how I have the books displayed. I keep the books on the floor in a basket where they not too visible.
