An easel is needed to increase engagement in learning with students and teacher. Morning messages are written on chart paper that is supported by an easel. Sharing the pen and working through math problems are all done on the easel. These can all be done using chart paper or the white board. Students are interested and eager to show others what they know. A rug is the space where we can grow as a classroom community. This is the space where we have morning meeting, we share things that will be happening throughout the day. On the rug students can face one another and share things with their peers. It is a safe space in the classroom, it helps to teach others to be respectful and kind listeners. The rug is also a space where we can do whole group learning. It is an important part of a classroom.
