This year, my students have read a variety of classic American texts, which have helped lay a foundation for critical thinking about the nature of what it means to call something "American." Now, they are eager to engage with contemporary and diverse texts that expand the range of discourse available to them in their study of American literature. Everything I Never Told You, by Celeste Ng, will be one of five options available to my juniors for our end-of-year book groups, in which students will lead their own discussions with their peers, and ultimately design and create response projects meant to convey to their classmates what their chosen texts brings to bear on the conversation we've had over the course of the year.
