I will use the Wikki Stix and foam paint for students to practice creating letters, numbers, and shapes. These items allow the students to have a tactile medium to practice with. These and the other sensory items such as the tubs, bean bags, and gel shapes provide a sensory diet for students that need sensory feedback in order to be at their best for learning. Involving as many of the senses as possible in learning provides students with disabilities more opportunities for success. Use of sensory activities has also been shown to decrease negative behaviors in class. The sensory tubs and alphabet packs will also provide a method of alternative assessment for students who may have difficulty due to language or fine motor delays. They can locate a specific letter, shape, or number or I can allow them to make choices from a field. This allows them to demonstrate what they know even if they are unable to do so with traditional means.
