I will be teaching remotely this coming school year due to Covid-19. Ending this past school year remotely really highlighted the challenges that my students and I will face in the year to come. While many unknowns still exist, it is clear that the most up-to-date technology is going to be crucial in supporting my students' engagement and access to the rigorous curriculum that I am revamping for the 2020-21 school year. Even when meeting in person, BIPOC students face inequitable education due to systemic racism, and that is only going to get worse learning under Covid-19 without the proper technologies and supports. My Black and Brown female students are going to need me as their teacher to make remote learning as seamless and engaging as possible, especially when their own access to technology is not always reliable. That is why I am requesting a MacBook Pro and iPad Pro + Pencil so that I can provide my students with the most innovative and accessible education possible. Teaching remotely requires strong processing speeds, audiovisual capabilities, and a large memory for recording and sharing classes held on Zoom. It also requires a way for me to model and provide handwritten feedback to assignments posted on Google Classroom, and the ability to see how the different programs and websites we will be using work on a computer and tablet, as my students will be using both. Whether at home or in the school building, remote learning is the new normal for at least the coming school year, and I as a teacher need the technology with which I can provide my students with the education and 21st Century skills that they deserve. And the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Pencil will allow me to do so.
