The Big Island of Hawaii has been hit multiple times this year with challenges, and the students have endured. Large numbers of families have had to relocate and rebuild their lives. This resulted in a loss of enrollment in some schools, and a boost in others. Connections Public Charter school has had a fluctuating number of children due to the recent volcanic activity. Although, many had hoped the famed fissure 8 was done, it is once again showing signs of eruption. At this point, no one can say if it is done or not. Due to the eruptions, as well as the recent hurricane activity, students are in a state of uncertainty. Many have lost homes, many more have lost a sense of normalcy. School helps to restore some of the day in and day out activities that gives children comfort.
