My students entered my classroom with a love for reading like I have never seen before during my teaching career. This prompted me to begin new routines in my classroom. Their favorite addition is “A Picture Book a Day” where I get the opportunity to fuel their reading fire with great picture books. This has allowed students to be exposed to multiple genres and gives them the courage to try new areas of reading. When students are exposed to rich literacy experiences, they begin to see the value of reading outside of the walls of our classroom. They have started to share how much being read to each day makes their school experience more enjoyable.
