With my background in science, I have always incorporated lab experiences with my gifted students. We have worked cooperatively learning electricity, mechanical engineering, bioethics, simple machines, etc. The Owl pellet activity will provide the lab experience to all remote learners. Since most of my students are now working remotely, working like we have in the past is not possible. This will give us a chance to work in a laboratory setting while still learning remotely. I will be conferencing with the student as we work on the owl pellet. The students want to work on science activities more than anything else. Working remotely has limited this.
