Many of the books on this list are Ezra Jack Keats Award Winners, which is given to honor a book for being more inclusive of diverse perspectives. These books are not part of the mainstream classroom. My students need more books that reflect who they are and to see others in positive and beautiful literature. We read to understand characters' feelings, traits, and ways of overcoming simple to complex problems. The books included here will support not only our deep discussions, but also help my students see the beauty in others.
