Students will be modifying a mac and cheese recipe with their new knowledge of fractions. Paper and pencil assessments are a thing of the past with the use of math knowledge (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing of fractions) in order to divide a standard recipe by 3/4 to produce a product that won't make too much food. Cooking an essential whether you are in 5th grade or 50, and know how to adjust recipes is a must in order not to waste food. Students will first show mastery of the process of fractions and how to determine the right process to solve all grade level problems with fractions. Upon completion, the students will be divided into group and break out their chef attire to examine a recipe and only use 3/4 of the recipe. I am requesting essential cooking items like measuring cups, mixing bowls, baking dishes and essential conversion charts to ensure that we have all the proper materials for our meal. Without these items, it will be vary difficult to have all of the necessary tools to complete this project. This will take mastery of fractions and collaboration of the group. I enlisted many staff members to help with the prep, cooking and tasting portion of this project. With your help, we can get the supplies needed to complete this cheesy fractions problem.
