My school has just implemented a new reading program. There are many great ideas and lessons around this new series. However, as a first year teacher I have gotten the short end of the stick and lack desperate supplies for the room. I have attempted to implement a listening station only to find broken headphones, a recording device that does not work and students suffering as a result. I feel their ELA skills could be much higher at this point with a recorder and tape player. I have considered turning to parents but this is a very high need community with little money and resources. The parents are wonderful but just cannot afford to help out financially in the classroom.
