First grade students vary in age from 5-7 years old. At this age we like dancing, playing, moving, and bouncing. The traditional classroom doesn't support our urge to move! By replacing our bulky and unsupportive chairs with flexible seating options, my students will be able to focus on their work while exerting extra energy as they need to. Not only will we be supporting our kinesthetic needs, we are teaching our young students to manage their personal health needs. The "sit-and-get" classroom no longer supports the needs of a 21st century learner. By providing yoga balls, wiggle seats, floor cushions, and lap desks as alternative seating options, my students will have choice and the ability to regulate their movement needs without disrupting their peers and still getting essential curriculum.
