My students are excited about reading, they love sharing with me things they have read and learned about. I love it when they say to me with excitement, "Mr. Moffett did you know?" Unfortunately I do not have a large library of engaging books for them to choose from. I have recently retired from a 30 year banking career. This is my first year as a teacher, therefore my classroom library is small. I am running out of books for them to read and some students have told me they are bored with my small selection.I am hoping to build a library by selecting books from a list provided by school counselors and coaches. I have checked out a few of these titles from the library and read them to the class. It was eye opening how much fun they had reading and listening to exciting books. These books help with several comprehension skills such as making inferences, retelling/summarizing, main idea. visualizing ideas, and asking question. These are titles I will be able to use for years to come.
