My students are a diverse group of 10th graders in a high poverty inner-city public school. They belong to an Environmental Science Academy and participate in shoreline clean-ups, habitat restoration and environmental recreations trips with me, as well as school-wide recycling. They care deeply about nature and turning around the damaging course humans have taken in the past century. They pitch in and have fun learning about the environment and taking care of it. They are motivated to achieve more academically because they see the value and need for educated environmental stewards.
