Being able to connect students to the world with the use of iPads will help engage their curiosity. My students love taking a topic that they're reading or learning about and extending it to their own lives. They love to research. Unfortunately, we lack the necessary tools for all students to actively research as a class. With only 6 netbooks in a classroom of 24, we do our best to rotate. With technology as big as it is today, my students will thrive on being able to have a device to support their research. Furthermore, studies have shown that listening to reading is an effective way to improve fluency and comprehension. An iPad in the hands of a student whether they're using it for research or to listen to a story, will spark engagement and deepen the students' desire to connect text to the world. Having access to iPads will improve the learning of the students and help foster the importance of not only asking questions, but searching for the answers.
