This is my seventh year teaching, but first time teaching the fifth grade. My school is a high-needs public school servicing students in a low-income and high-poverty community. Students live in public housing and students come from shelters. As a public school, it is very difficult to provide finances to address the educational needs of the students. This means that it is providing the students with a qualified, and certified teaching staff. However, my school is unable to provide teaching materials or manipulatives to teach students. Due to the budget deficit, many of the essentials are forgotten or neglected. I know it is very important for my students to feel they are privilege to have math games or manipulatives in the classroom. These materials I am asking for will make them explore because they are tactile learners.
