My students love learning but, struggle daily with sitting in a chair with their bottom in the seat and their feet on the floor. It is almost as if they are allergic to doing it. I must say sit correctly and explain my fear that they are going to fall and hurt themselves at least 20 times a day. But with focus on educational minutes, and less recess minutes than in past years I can't blame them for being antsy. They need the freedom to move! If they had the ability to bounce their feet, wobble on a ball or sit on the floor they would be more focused on the math, science, and social studies I am trying to teach them. I would like to implement flexible seating to allow my students to move, bounce, or fidgit while completing classwork and learning. I am asking for two different types of bouncy bands for the desks so students can tap and wiggle their feet without disrupting anybody else. I am also asking for wobble chairs and balance balls so my students can move in their seats while completing classwork or participating in class. Both will be a safer less disruptive way for my students to sit in their desks during instruction. Students today are constantly moving and thinking. I no longer have students who can sit in a conventional desk for hours without needing to move. Please help me give them new ways to sit in my classroom and learn.
