Flexible seating will offer my high school students different options for independent work and help them focus in a welcoming learning environment. Traditional desks will be set up but students will have the choice of a chair or yoga ball (especially good for students who have a lot of energy!). A rug will be set up with a small table & cushions so students who rather stretch out on the floor can, while still focusing on the front of the room. Independent or collaborative work will give students more choice, with a back corner reserved for more comfortable reading & quiet work with comfortable seating. A mixture of traditional & flexible seating will address students' learning needs, while also creating a classroom that is welcoming & student-centered. Students will also learn how they best work & understand their needs in order to learn. Giving students a choice in how they work in the classroom will create a more inclusive environment while also offering the structure of a traditional classroom.
