Students will be using our alternative seating options daily as we work and learn in the classroom. Our classroom will be completely overhauled using new furniture and new rugs as well as existing furniture already in the classroom. Long tables will replace desks and stability balls and carpet squares will replace chairs for different choices in seating and the ability to move around and wiggle while students work. Our small group learning tables will have stools and crate seats around them that can also be moved around so students can change their "spot" in the room. New rugs and big joe chairs will complete our reading nooks and yoga mats will be in the classroom to allow those students that want to stretch out and work to do so. The new seating and rug options will not only make our room more inviting but will also give our students a chance to choose how and where they learn best. We will work at the beginning to implement procedures and routines that will help them really understand what it means to make the best choices in seating that will help them learn. We will spend time discussing how important it is to be responsible for our minds, bodies, and voices and reflect on how and why we chose our spot and whether it worked for us or not. In the end, students will not only get all their wiggles out, but will also become responsible workers and learners within the classroom.
