I would like to provide my students with more experiences to explore the cellular world using these new microscopes. I facilitate the learning of approximately 135 students each year, generally 30 students per class. I currently have five microscopes that are working reliably. This means in one class, there are about five to six students taking turns to view their collected specimens. Some classes do not allow for everyone to get their chance. The excitement and energy in the classroom is amazing when they each bring their specimen into focus! They call all their classmates over to their scope to see it too. By adding five more microscopes, it would ensure that every one of my students get a turn to see the cells of the various matter they collect, like fruit slices, cheek swab of cells, onion sections, hair, yarn, paper, etc. The data that students collect is used to help support their claim statements to the question, "What are living things made of?"
