I teach first grade in a high poverty district in Virginia. My students come to me eager to learn, and I want to give them the best possible start. At the first grade level, that means giving them a strong foundation in reading and math. That foundation is an absolute necessity for continued success in school and beyond. Our school district is facing severe budget cuts. Those cuts translate into larger classes with fewer resources. That is why I am seeking creative ways to fund equipment I know will benefit my students.
