My students are more engaged learners when we do hands on activities, experiments, and investigations rather than only reading information from a science or math textbook. Staying focused on the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards, my third grade students will be able to determine cause and effect relationships and patterns between different forces and interactions and mathematical systems. These materials will be put to use through magnetic interaction lessons written out and connected to the Next Generation Science Standards 3-PS2 Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions. The students will explore materials that interact with magnets, magnetic poles, and magnetic interference. Additionally, they will explore how magnetism, electromagnets, and compasses are related. The timers, stopwatch, measuring tape, and clipboards will assist them through data collection during our investigations. Furthermore, the generous donation will help my students in math by giving them the opportunity to use manipulatives. The thermometer, dropper, beakers, and liquid measuring set will help the students during our measurement unit as they explore liters, milliliters, grams, kilograms, and other units of measure. The linking cubes, dominoes, wood blocks, and fraction tiles will give the students a chance to use manipulatives as they discover multiplication, division, geometry, and fractions to develop their conceptual understanding. By having hands-on materials and visuals, these concepts will be solidified and my students will be able to persevere through harder problems.
Through your support, my students will get the opportunity to witness scientific phenomena and explore mathematical concepts by being able to develop the skills they need to compete in the 21st century through developing their STEM abilities.
