Currently, we possess most of what we need for music lessons to be taught well in the day to day classroom as each individual class within a grade contains up to 24 students. However, if we wish to perform this same music during a concert it becomes difficult or impossible, as we don't have enough of the intended instrument for the nearly 100 students per grade to individually use while onstage. The supplies which we hope to fund would ensure that each student has adequate resources to perform onstage, could be used within the classroom each day, and be saved for upcoming concerts. The handbells, specifically, will be used to play chords accompanying handchimes playing the melody and a select group of singers in our third grade; the Boomwhackers will be utilized by both the kindergarten and first grade during the Spring Concert--the first grade only uses three different tones: C/F/G and we need to divide enough Boomwhackers among 75 students. I currently have enough for 18-24 students to play "Boomin' the Blues". Also, we frequently use both Boomwhackers and handbells during regular weekly music lessons, as it teaches students about rhythm, how to follow the directions of a conductor, play as a team, and recognize notes and how they make both melodies and chords.
