All of my students crave learning more about the world around them. My students have limited experiences and have only been exposed to events in their small community. My students may never be able to travel to exotic places or meet anyone famous. They may not get to explore different career opportunities or immerse themselves in a different culture. Scholastic News, Time for Kids, and Science Spin can open windows into the world. Students will have the opportunity to investigate new and exciting topics through the use of rich text and illustrations. By increasing their background knowledge of various topics, students' reading and ideas for writing will improve which will increase student motivation and achievement. I believe all students should have the opportunity to discover more than what they can imagine. Through the use of Scholastic News, Time for Kids, and Science Spin magazines in the classroom, students can explore the world and what it has to offer together. Students can collaborate around various topics to grow themselves and their knowledge base. When the magazines have been effectively used in the classroom, students will be able to take them home to share and spread their newfound knowledge with their families, thus increasing the impact and importance of this project.
