Books give my students an escape. They read to learn, but they are now reading for pleasure. So much so, that some of the books in my classroom now are literally falling apart. Struggling to fit in, in many cases, my students use reading as a way to belong, learn, feel successful, and reach academic goals. They read to get wrapped-up in a world far away from their own. To give my students a way to feel successful with their various home situations, parents in jail, and other less than ideal situations, I must keep my students reading! We need to replace the books we have and keep kids reading! My trusty book tape just isn't cutting it anymore.

About my class
