I am a fifth year art teacher in a low income community. I am also taking night classes to obtain a masters degree in art education. I teach at a primary school with the most creative, intelligent, motivated, and focused students. It is an incredible school that strives to meet the needs of all students, both academically and socially. As a new and growing school, we are working to build a comprehensive, quality arts program that includes visual art, music, and musical theater. My students worked hard last year to put on an art show to raise money for a kiln. I believe in their active participation, using their artistic visions, ideas, and products, to help raise the money for more art resources. They were ecstatic to learn how much money they raised selling their artwork. My hope is to expose students to a variety of media and to help them find their own artistic voices to create meaningful work.
