Imagine sitting at your desk for 7 hours a day, listening to someone giving you directions and not having the freedom to get up and move. Now imagine being 7 or 8 years old! This is why my students need bean bag chairs, wobble stools, lap desk and clipboards. Research shows that students need the movement and activity to help stimulate the brain, blood flow and attention. When a student has a learning disability these accessories are given to them, but what about the other students who can benefit from them to. This past year it hit me, why do special education students only get financial support in flexible seating when all 7 and 8 year old children benefit from movement and self decision making! I have been teaching 2nd grade since I graduated college 8 years ago. I also just completed my Masters in Special Education. I am currently in a Title 1 school and have the privilege of teaching all special education inclusion students who are in 2nd grade. I have always had a love of teaching and creating a classroom family where I create a safe space for students to explore, learn and make mistakes to help succeed. I am hoping with your support I can make a learning environment which leads to self decision making, more responsibility and buy in to their own education process. I thank you in advance for your support in my students success.
