We are requesting 15 binoculars so they can observe the wildlife from a distance at our local creek and wetland habitats. Our project is to have the students to observe and record the local wetland's migratory wildlife, as well as, to determine the fowls that are local. Hundreds of geese make these wetlands a stopping over place in their journey south. What is interesting is that some stay. Why? Students will work in partners to observe and record their data to see if they can number and name the local populations, as well as, the migratory populations. We work with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and with their guidance, we will collect data that, over time, will give us valuable information about our local wetlands. What is wonderful is that, because of your donation, 300 plus students will be able to use these binoculars for various projects throughout the school. By working in partners, 15 binoculars are enough for a whole classroom to experience what we have in our own back yard. Different classrooms use the wetlands to meet various standards for their grade levels, but none of us have access to binoculars for close-up data collecting. These binoculars will open doors for an untold amount of student research projects.
