Social Behavior Inclusion (SBI) educates students with disabilities on how to become an active part in interactions around them. Our program works to teach coping skills for handling difficult social situations without withdrawing or acting out. I pull students out daily for small group social skills class, where we work on how to be "socially acceptable". Another, large aspect of this program is providing instruction in the way that best appeals to the students' learning style. This requires quite a bit of trial and error when preparing. We write numerous social stories, especially at the start of the school year, to provide words and visuals to explain some of the confusing things the child will face as they get acclimated to the new school year. It is so amazing to watch the transformation from withdrawn and confused to active players in the world around them!
