Now that students are learning virtually, it is often difficult to model analyzing text with technology. Sometimes, a good old pencil and sheet of paper are best! A document camera would allow students to watch me highlight and notate a text while doing a close read. Modeling think alouds during reading helps students understand what they should be thinking when approaching difficult and complex texts. Students need to know how to successfully navigate complex text to be competitive and capable learners and workers. Although the district has been able to provide most of the technology needed for virtual teaching, I truly know that a document camera would be a wonderful asset.
