I plan to pair these novels with classics for a well-rounded year of learning. The contemporary stories give the students the feeling of realism of the "this could or has happened to me" feelings. Lit circles, fishbowls, reader's table, and theme analysis projects are a few examples of how we will use these materials in the classroom. When students read books that relate to them, my job becomes more meaningful. The discussions that can come from the alignment of classic and contemporary makes me really excited for next year! The contemporary novels will be a great way to differentiate the learning in my classroom as well, which is a resource that is always limited.
