My students are at one of the lowest performing schools in our district. We are also in the bottom 5 percent of schools in the state of California. We are struggling! Our students come from broken and needy families. Many of them don't know where their next meal will come from. Gangs and violence are daily challenges our students face. Life for them is a struggle. We don't want that to be the story of their education either. Their education should be one area that they can escape the daily grind at home and come to be refreshed.
