This project requests graphing composition notebooks, Scotch tape, and highlighters to help them to create an Interactive Notebook to use as a resource for high school and college math classes. For the past two years I have helped my students to create their own Interactive Notebook (INB) in my Algebra, Pre-Calc, and AP Calc classes. These notebooks are a mixture of traditional notes, foldables, illustrations, and activities. I've found that students have a great sense of ownership having created the notebooks from scratch. It also helps engage the students more fully, since it encourages creativity, has kinesthetic qualities, and provides a math resource that students can keep for use in later courses. I have had several former students tell me that they used their INB to help them achieve success in their college math classes. I have noticed a great improvement in overall student participation. In addition, students learn to utilize the resource of their notebook, which transfers to an increased use of reference sheets provided on standardized tests.
