To me, the optimal learning environment includes as much student choice as possible. One way to provide that is a choice in seating. Our classroom currently has a few IKEA stools, and basic chairs for their desks. While I love providing the current seating choices, they are not options that allow student movement. I'd like to maximize student choice in seating by adding wobble cushions, wobble cushions, active learning stools, kneeling cushions for those who want to sit on the floor, and a few other options that allow students to move. The Learniture stools are great for movement because they are stools that are rounded at the bottom. Wobble cushions are inflated circular discs that students balance on as they sit. This project would increase the variety of options for student seating to meet the variety of needs in one classroom. School can be restrictive by nature, but providing various opportunities for movement while working, would increase student engagement. I know my second graders will benefit greatly with these materials.
