When our fourth child entered sixth grade, I was curious about the seating arrangement in her ELA teacher's classroom. Having taught 20 years, I was intrigued to see no chairs! No chairs? That's right! Teachers across the country have noticed an increase in wiggly behaviors and students' inability to focus on instruction. A solution some classrooms are finding success with is swapping out standard classroom chairs for a set stability ball chairs! One school in our district has six classrooms with ball seats and all of the teachers report significant increase in student achievement and attribute that to their implementing stability balls for their student seating! Wow! These convenient, active seats improve students’ posture and their concentration, allowing them to burn excess energy and work their core muscles while focusing on their coursework and the teacher’s instructions. I am excited to see how my students' learning improves with a bit of opportunity to move during whole-group, seated instruction by implementing this technology in the classroom! Initially, I had put in for 26 student chairs and two teacher chairs, but had to decrease that goal.. The 26 student chairs plus two teacher chairs came up just under $1200, so if this project raises that much, we would be able complete the class set! Thank you most sincerely for partnering with us!
