R.O.C.K.S is our school's PBIS (positive behavior intervention and support) system. R is for Respect, O is for Ownership, C is for Cooperation, K is for Kindness, and S is for Self-Control. Since kindergarten may be the first classroom experience for my most of my students, it is important to practice these skills everyday in various ways. This year I would like to put an emphasis on the cooperation aspect by giving the students more opportunities to work together as teammates or opponents. Students are having more and more trouble working together as teammates. They need more opportunities to play and learn how to work together. These are important life skills that many students are lacking. These games and activities will be used daily as a fun way to practice these important life skills. Simple games such as Jenga, Guess Who, and Uno, help teach students about taking turns, good sportsmanship, listening skills and working together. Jenga can also be used a STEM activities to building certain structure. Headbanz is a great way for students to practice using adjectives. The prize rewards will be used as weekly incentives for those students that demonstrate our R.O.C.K.S throughout the week. Beanie Babies are a great visual and physical reminder of using our reading strategies (eagle eye). The cube storage system will be used to house all group activity materials so the students will have access and be able to take ownership of their game selection.
