I teach 6th and 7th grade art in a diverse community located in the Poconos. My kids are a crazy, eager bunch of artists who have a lot of fun while making great art. I have a space in my room for the 'Fab Lab', which is a place where kids can go to have fun and engage their maker spirits while completing various challenges with a variety of materials. The materials are switched from time to time and challenges are geared to the material that we're using at that time. Due to space restrictions, I have to limit the amount of materials in use at any given time. In my class we celebrate Dot Day, Pi Day, and take on the Cardboard Challenge. We break away from the ordinary! I embrace technology and the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) philosophy of education. I believe that learning about the design process is essential for kids to be successful in any field.
