If you walked in my classroom you would hear little voices speaking many different languages and see sparkling brown, blue and green eyes. My wonderful students demonstrate remarkable resiliency every day. They often are short on sleep, food, and proper clothing. Many of their parents are working more than one minimum wage job, trying to make ends meet. Yet all of these kids learn and achieve at school. My urban school is surrounded by small homes and low income apartment buildings. The majority of students receive free or reduced lunch.
