I utilize Google Classroom so that students can listen to the audiobook of their whole class novels, and follow along at their own pace. They answer questions and complete assignments with the Chromebooks. This scaffolding provided by the audiobooks allows students who are below grade level to track the words in the books as they follow along with a fluent reader. I also provide enrichment activities in Google Classroom that encourage critical thinking and support the work they are doing with their whole class novel. This helps to meet each reader at their level. Being able to listen along with a skilled reader while following along with the text of their independent reading books would not only improve reading skills but also help students gain confidence and allow them to read a wider range of reading materials. These five Chromebooks would make my classroom one to one, meaning all students would have their own Chromebooks in my room in order to make gains in reading.
