Graphic novels are less intimidating for kids that are reading below grade level. Reading graphic novels builds comprehension and critical thinking skills. The art actually tells part of the story making kids use skills such as inferencing to make sense of text. Having the books will allow for our students to have authentic book circle discussions about real world issues with their peers while building language for our English Language Learners. Being that the title is on the Project Lit book list ensures that we are promoting the love of reading while giving students access to diverse literature.
