"I love writing!" This is what I have been hearing from my students the last few weeks. I bought one set of mechanical pencils for my class to test how they would work in my classroom. I noticed that the students were getting distracted by the pencil sharpener noise throughout the day, and I knew that I needed to come up with a solution. I labeled each pencil with their class number, and I keep an inventory of them each day. When I passed out the pencils to them their face lit up with excitement. A few of them even shouted, "I can't wait to write with this!". They take very good care of their pencils, and I haven't had a student lose one yet! I would love to keep up this excitement of writing in my classroom. I also know my students would benefit from a crayon sharper. They like to illustrate their stories, and only have a handful of dull crayons.
