Using new, updated, and exciting technology and tools in the science classroom will help to further engage my students in scientific discovery. These wireless stemoscopes can be used for countless labs and activities throughout the school year. Students will be able to explore sounds that are normally "hidden" in the world around them, from both living and non-living objects. Students will be able to use these devices to analyze and record how their own hearts and lungs react to changes during lab activities associated with aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Students will be able to listen and record the sounds of trees taking in water during our unit on photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Students will most importantly be able to investigate questions of their own and conduct real-world research using these devices. They can record, analyze, and compare sounds that they hear and share them with each other. They will also be able to visualize the waveforms and spectrograms that they hear, adding a whole new level to understanding the sounds of life. While traditional stethoscopes can be used in the classroom, these devices will bring a new and exciting portal to scientific discovery for my students.
