The 6th grade Science Fair is a huge event at my school. I teach students from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Some students have no computer at home let alone a printer. Students have to create display boards for the science fair and need to print documents including graphs in color representing the data from their science experiment. I hold after-school workshops to help students complete their science fair projects. A colored printer will provide the printed material needed for their science fair projects. These students aim to make it to the local university's JR Richey Science Fair, so every detail matters. Science Labs are vital in fostering students' learning. My project also includes the necessary tools to make these labs successful. The 6th-grade science curriculum includes the study of the solar system (solar system model), matter (density cubes), heat transfer (electric kettle and warming plate), and engineering design which is supported through Utah's SEEd curriculum as well as the Core Knowledge Curriculum (Calling All Minds: How To Think and Create Like an Inventor). The science labs inspire my students not only to investigate but also to select projects for the Science Fair. Finally, and as students conduct research in science, they listen to science-related videos through credible websites such as NASA.gov, PBS Learning, and Nearpod. Some of my students cannot afford to buy headphones; the headphones that can be provided through this project will be a great help.
