Our students will develop stock footage, stock images and micro films to contribute 21st century imagery and stories to create a more balanced narrative of their local community, for general, public use by the global community. The video kit in our grant includes everything needed to produce video including the photography and video camera body, lens, and high quality microphone. My students have already proven success with limited resources, but they can't use low-quality videos to launch them into their future careers. Unfortunately, when students are constructing multimedia assignments, they struggle to find images and videos that look like them to illustrate their assignments or to use as models. It affects the portfolio they use to get scholarships, and to get employment in this industry. Student Activities will include: Reviewing the current selection of stock footage, images and short films online Analyzing the current selection for craft, focus and story Developing storyboards and writing microscripts Casting actors Creating production schedules Creating budgets for production Filming and editing Imagery Posting imagery for general use Our students will produce a resource of stock footage images (think Getty), and micro films that reflect their 21st century stories, and give our community a way to shape the narratives that are being told about it. We’ll explore the history of media, address "deep-fake", propaganda, and other ways media are used, and what power we have to create new, positive stories about our community.
