My students attend a large Title One elementary school in Northern California. 100% of our students receive school lunches. While some might say that Title One School have more funding than other that is simply not true. Since our students arrive in the educational system sometimes with a cumulative disadvantage, most of our Title One funds are spent on people to provide small group instruction, not on discretionary materials or supplies. Our students are emphatic and resilient....a challenge and a joy to teach, but worth every minute. Our biggest challenge is having them connect to something bigger than themselves and understand that their actions impact the environment and life around them.
