With the numerous online resources that are available to students today, a teacher can provide students with individualized instruction and interventions that specifically target the special needs of the student. However, when in a classroom with other students, it can become rather distracting when everyone is listening to something different on the computer. Being able to use these headphones would provide a quieter, more individualized, learning environment for the students, while being able to stay in the classroom. Headphones are more reliable than the small earbuds that only a few students can afford to bring to school. Given that 100% of our students receive free lunch, spending money on school supplies can be a great financial burden for many. One of the several classroom and testing accommodations that many of the special needs students use is having material read to them. For many of the students, they are working significantly below grade level and reading is a challenge for them. No two students work on the same level, therefore, resulting in the teacher needing to differentiate instruction. Having daily access to headphones would allow the teacher to do this by using technology geared to the students individualized needs.
