These study carrels will provide a space for my students to work independently. In my classroom, we utilize small group rotations. One rotation in particular is intended to be "independent work". For students with moderate to severe disabilities, independent work is crucial, as it provides them time to work on skills they have mastered. Continued practice helps to ensure skills are retained over time. In addition to supporting skill retention, a designated space for independent thinking is imperative in encouraging students to take ownership of their learning. At these study carrels, students will practice following a sequence to independently complete tasks at their individual ability level.
