No one knows yet exactly what the learning will look like in my classroom this year when using the hybrid model for instruction. Despite this uncertainty, one thing is for certain, my students will be reading! Having a large, diverse classroom library helps to ensure that my students can find the perfect book to read. This year, we will need students to have individual books for independent reading. Independent reading books will go between home and school. Books will have to be stored in my closet and quarantined when returned. I would like to encourage student choice for independent reading by providing books that appeal to the young adult mind, capture rich, authentic, and diverse cultural perspectives, and include female protagonists. Making these books available to students in my intervention class, my ninth grade ELA class, and my talented and gifted book club, guarantees that all students have the opportunity to enjoy reading this school year and continue their learning beyond the classroom.
