My students need repetitive learning of the same topic over and over again. Since they are working on the same skills for an extended amount of time, it is important that they are given new activities to practice their skills. Often times I will teach a whole group lesson on a beginning academic task such as counting, adding, subtracting, number sense, reading CVC words, spelling, rhyming, etc., and the students will then have time to practice what they learned independently or with guided practice with a paraprofessional. This type of practice will assist my students in becoming more independent in the classroom so that they can join the general education classroom more often and sooner as they get older.
Having laminated literacy and math independent practice activities in the classroom will give them hands-on practice with different materials that can be used for years.
It is environmentally friendly because it uses less paper in the long run when materials can be used over and over for many students. The storage boxes allow me to prep materials and easily switch out the themed activities monthly. If I switch out materials monthly it will keep the students engaged and the activities can then be themed around the seasons or holidays during the given month. If I can get all of the materials prepped ahead of time it will allow for more time planning well thought lessons during the year instead of worrying about prepping these materials. With the items being laminated, they can be used for many different children for many years to come.
